Mini Choppers

Contrary to popular belief, mini choppers are excellent as iconic vehicles. The fact that they look smaller than the Choppers we know from the 1960s does not make a difference - fact remains that Harley Davidson motorcycles have shrunk through the 80s and the 90s. In order to make them more eco-friendly, popular and cheaper to ride, manufacturers have had to change the icons into modest, but equally stylish versions. This bike are big - this is for a fact - and what makes them iconic is the strong resemblance of the pedals, the water-splash shaped petrol tank and obviously the arms or handles. This bike are thankfully cheaper to ride as they provide more mileage and durability than previous models. If you are a fan of the Harley Davidson shape written about here, you can also set your target on Italian and Chinese replica models of the classic Harley Davidson (HD). The HD subsidiary market provides options for almost all bike owners even if they want to convert their used bikes into mini choppers.

Since mini choppers from HD continue to remain expensive, Italian and Chinese markets are making a good amount of business, especially with teens and young adults choosing to invest much lesser for stylish mini choppers. Custom built designs generally come with heavy investment in accessories. After purchasing an ordinary bike from the market, you can easily choose to invest in heavy accessory addition with the leftover money. This can help increase the bike's value, save on insurance over and above the fact that your ordinary bike will require low premiums (300-400 dollars per year). Mechanical failures may however be a nagging problem with people who use customized bikes. In order to provide yourself a safe deal, especially to avail your money's worth, you must check for the features of the mini chopper to begin with. Many cheaper models might cause you to pay hefty insurance amounts and maintenance charges.

Factory failure may be a common feature in mini choppers. That however does not mean that Harley Davidson shares most of the blame for it. Factories in various parts of the world roll out this under improvised branding ideas. That allows a large part of the world to own these reliable machines, but they have a typically bad name with insurance companies and the US Govt Department of Vehicles. However, most of these companies sell mini choppers with DIY kits. They are adequate for a biker to get his mini chopper back in shape after a minor accident or intrinsic failure. Fitting parts into grooves of a mini chopper is simpler than it may appear to a first-timer. Since this bike are hand built, they follow a legacy of being easy to dismantle - at least in the second attempt.

About the Author

Purchasing a Mini Choppers is an ambition that most people set above their passion. Therefore, most mini chopper owners tend to rely on the original source - Harley Davidson. Their DIY kits come with DVD lessons, detailed explanation of each part, which you can skip, and the building steps of making your baby - which you would never want to miss!

Suzuki VS Intruder Series--A Quick Introduction On This Classic Model

The Suzuki Intruder has long been a preferred choice of plenty of fans. In fact, since the time when the first model debuted in '85, it has persisted as a celebrated motorcycle in the new markets and used markets both. Let's find out why.

When a person longed to have a cruiser in the eighties, he had a slim selection. Mainly, he could go with a Harley-Davidson or get nothing at all. That was great and all if you liked Harleys, but what if you wanted a different cruiser?

That's where the Japanese cruiser imports came into use.

As soon as the Japanese motorcycle builders discovered they could make money on the cruiser buying American public, it didn't take the four major companies any time at all to come out with their own brand of cruiser. This was excellent for those who were not adverse to purchasing something not made in America. For about half the price in most cases a rider could have a brand new cruiser that was just as useful and comfortable as its American vis a vis.

But there was a small issue. Though all four principal Japanese manufacturers (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha) came out with their own models, it was Suzuki who seemed to get it right first with its Suzuki Intruder motorcycle. The other manufacturer's cruisers seemed to cross a cruiser style with a street bike functionality, a hodgepodge that most riders found a little on the ugly side. The 1986 VS700 Intruder, however, was clean, pure cruiser from start to finish.

We'll start by delving a little into the engine. The Intruder's engine is a 45-degree v-twin with overhead cams. This configuration holds true for all Intruder series of motorcycles (VS700, VS750, VS800, VS1400, etc.). The cooling method for these motorcycles--other than the VS1400, which is both oil cooled and air cooled--is by liquid. The tranny shares the same case as the crankshaft. The resulting power is delivered to the back wheel by way of a shaft drive as opposed to a chain.

Though you can have a cruiser without a v-twin, this engine style is considered the zenith among cruiser fanatics.

With the proper motor in place, Suzuki concentrated on not only rider comfort, but cruiser style as well.

Looking at the rider's pilot position, Suzuki made certain that the Intruder had a comfortably low-slung seat with forward positioned (though not radically forward) driver pegs and forward controls. The handlebars additionally served to both look the cruiser part and put the operator's wrists and hands into natural positions.

With the rider comfortable and good to go, Suzuki accomplished what the others did not: they cleaned up and uncluttered the entire bike.

The different cables were either tucked away or ordered so they did not stick out like a sore thumb. This also held true for the wiring system. The dash setup, for want of a better term was tidy without instrument gauges and lights that were practically useless on these cruiser styles. Only one instrument, a speedometer, and one warning light box were used. These things gave you all you had to know from whether the bike was overheating to the speed you were traveling.

The front end forks had a pleasing angle to them. Almost chopper-like. This was good because the rest of the Intruder also adopts this look. From the front end to the back end, the Intruder is tenuous and displays virtually no extra bulk.

What about the chrome? Have I mentioned the chrome? These rides had lots of it but not in the extreme and not to the point of being tawdry, either. Just the right about to give the motorcycle a little flash.

So with the proper style and performance in the bag, it's no surprise that this little cruiser stole the hearts of so many bikers over the years. Oh, and the low price/high value didn't hurt either!

If you are on the lookout for a new or used cruiser, I suggest you take a gander at the Suzuki Intruder motorcycle if you don't already have one in your sights.

5 Must Haves for Perfect Motorcycle Mufflers

Motorcycle Mufflers are motorcycle accessories that are basically made to reduce noise produced by hot gases emitting out of the motorcycle. However, they have also been used reversely. So, we see different types of mufflers made for different purposes. Whatever type you choose for your vehicle, following five points are 'must haves' for a perfect motorcycle muffler:

EPA Compliance: EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) works for the environment protection and makes laws accordingly. The motorcyclists are bound to abide by the standards set by EPA. Since it's implemented differently in different states, it's important to know what these standards are when you're going on a long drive. If you don't get an EPA-compliant motorcycle muffler, you'll have to pay for this in the form of fines.

Durability: A perfect muffler is durable and is resistant for extreme temperatures. Stainless steel 304 is a material that is very resistant to very high or very low temperatures and thus saves your muffler from corrosion. This makes the muffler work for a longer time. So, whenever you go for buying a motorcycle muffler, make sure that it is durable or it will soon be corroded and you'll have to buy a new muffler for your motorcycle.

Better than Chrome Look: A perfect muffler is one that has a perfect look to beautify your ride to a maximum level. A muffler that has better than chrome look will definitely attract more people to look at your motorcycle as compared to Motorcycle Mufflers with a normal chrome look.

Performance: A perfect motorcycle muffler is one that gives maximum performance in terms of increased horse power as compared to stock mufflers. It ensures the smooth emission of hot gases out of it and thus helps the engine to continue working properly. A good looking motorcycle muffler without performance is nothing more than a show piece.

Guarantee: A perfect muffler is one that is manufactured in a way that it can pass any test. The manufacturers for mufflers provide guarantee for their mufflers to the motorcyclists and this serves as the proof that mufflers are what have been claimed by their manufacturers. A perfect muffler is one that a guaranteed for life for its material and workmanship.

These are some of the points that can help you find the perfect mufflers for your motorcycle. There can be more such points but these are five basic points that are necessarily to be fulfilled by mufflers to be perfect.

KTM 125 Duke Turning Heads Before Launch

Ever since it made its debut at the INTERMOT Bike Show in Cologne, the KTM 125 Duke has attracted a huge amount of interest wherever it has appeared. The thrill-seeking youth couldn't get enough of it at the recent Winter X-Games in Tignes, which just goes to show how popular KTM's first road-legal 125 already is with the younger generation of riders.

This is all good news for KTM, which is targeting entry-level riders with its latest model. To help boost the image of the 125 Duke as a fun bike for beginners, KTM has even hired stunt rider Rok Bagoros as part of the promotion team, and released promotional videos showing youngsters putting it through its paces.

In May or June 2011 the wait will finally be over, and this stylish, powerful, cutting-edge and massively fun bike will finally get to prove whether it justifies its status as one of the most talked about bikes of the year so far.

The Austrian manufacturer famous for its superb sports bikes has always focused on quality lightweight bikes combining the best components, powerful engines and excellent style, and the 125 Duke does not disappoint. KTM has been improving its on-road offerings ever since it launched the Super Duke back in 2004, and this is the road bike that beginners have been waiting for.

The new engine is reliable and powerful. KTM has a good history of single-cylinder engines, and this can be seen in the 4-stroke single-cylinder with liquid cooling in the 125 Duke. KTM's goal to produce an engine with clean emissions that gets some serious mileage seems to have been achieved, and although it's a 124.7 engine it has 15bhp and great progression.

The 125 Duke is great for everyday riding and the throttle response is excellent. But on top of that it also looks great. It's sleek, streamlined and customisable through KTM PowerParts so it can be adapted to the owner's personal style. Everything is in proportion and the finishes are great, making this a bike that is a joy to look at.

As you would expect from KTM, the 125 Duke comprises a number of high-quality components which are durable and easy to service, and the tubular chassis and WP suspension are excellent additions. It's also super light. The lightweight chassis makes it agile on the road, and at just 125 kg when fuelled it's not going to weigh anyone down.

Riding is a joy, and the excellent riding position enhances the feeling of control when out on the road. It's also easy to use, with a simple dashboard and gear indicator which is a useful feature for beginners.

For entry-level riders this is one cool bike. It is an ideal way for beginner riders to enjoy a Duke before they can get their hands on the more powerful machines, and there is no doubt that this is going to be the entry-level bike of choice this year - and perhaps for some time to come.

The Duke 125 is certain to be a hit in 2011. Duke wants to provide young riders with the same fun riding experience that its bigger bikes are famous for. It's exciting, it looks amazing, it's got excellent handling and great engine performance. Essentially, it's one of the best 125cc bikes ever made for the road, and if you can't wait to get your hands on it then just make sure you have full motorbike insurance in place to protect the best investment you'll be making this year.

Custom Harley Davidson Motorcycles

I have always loved custom motorcycles. I like anything from the simplistic to the sublime. I like simple custom painted motorcycle jobs, racers, choppers, cruisers and hogs. Custom Harley Davidson's, however, are my favorite. I have dreamed of owning a custom Harley Davidson motorcycle ever since I was a boy.

I think it started off with my uncle. He was a huge motorcycle aficionados, and an amateur custom motorcycle builder as well. My parents loved him because he would get me off of their hands on the weekends, and I loved him because he was always working on something interesting. I would go over to his house and see the garage strewn with Harley parts.

My parents were extremely fastidious, having to put everything in its proper place at all times. My uncle, however, had a very different philosophy of life. He loved to make a mess, particularly when he was involved in something hands-on. And he was always involved in some sort of hands-on project or other. Most of his motorcycles actually weren't custom Harley Davidson bikes.

He was a big fan of Indians, and he had one he was always working on. I watched him restore that Indian motorcycle together from ground up and considering most or all of the parts were delivered in 44 Gallon Drums of oil it was impressive to say the least but I was waiting for him to build a Harley. It wasn't too long before my prayers were answered.

He actually got an order for a custom Harley Davidson from one of the neighborhood kids. Although there were more highly ranked custom motorcycle builders out there, there was not anyone else who would do a good job for such an affordable price like my uncle would.

You see, he didn't build custom motorcycles for a living, but as a hobby. It was a labor of love for him, and as such he would always do a solid job. That is how he got the custom Harley Davidson order in the first place. Some kid had inherited his dad's old bike, and wanted my old uncle to fix it.

Not having the skills himself, he asked my uncle to help him out. I spent the whole summer helping him build that bike. My body was always streaked with grease from those custom motorcycle parts that I was handling. I was restless and grubby, but I was a happy kid. As a matter of fact, it was one of the best summers that I ever had!

Needless to say I've owned my current Harley for over 10 years now and I always tell people that my biggest regret was that I didn't buy it 10 years earlier. Yes it is customized but not in a show bike sense, it looks fantastic but more for touring I have ridden my Harley though every major city in Australia and will continue to do so until I die.

OH! and I am going to do a full custom of my own NOT a Harley though an Indian (not restore) but fully customize from the frame up in honor of my Uncle.

I love keeping up to date on new models and other Harley news and I know my Blog Harley Davidson Collectibles will help you keep up to date as well!

3 Top Motor Scooter Brands

With motorized scooters selling like crazy, the number of reputable manufacturers in the market is growing all the time. We don't have time to talk about all the brands out there, so this article will mention a handful that continue to stand out for their innovation and commitment to excellent scooter design.

Now, I admit that evaluating scooter beauty is a kind of subjective goal, so it could be a small stretch to call these are the "three best brands"--but just hear me out! Personal preferences aside, these are three scooter brands that qualify as can't miss favorites, year after year.

First up is the Vespa line by Piaggio.

The first motor scooter craze began in Italy after World War II. A stormy post-war economy pushed Piaggio, a military aircraft firm, toward a brand new market: motorized scooters. The rest is history. The early Vespas had ground-breaking features, hidden engines, and easy-to-change tires--and they started a wave of scooter popularity that swept across Europe. Jump to the 21st century, when Piaggio released an American scooter line. Today, Vespa motor scooters continue to get a lot of love for their excellent workmanship and "mod" vintage style.

Second, we'll look at motorized scooters by Honda.

Am I right in thinking that Honda doesn't really need an introduction? This Japanese manufacturer has cemented its reputation as a top tier vehicle manufacturer by creating compact, economical cars that are affordable and easy to maintain. Take that same commitment to quality, apply it to motorized scooters, and you get the idea. Honda scooters are designed with modern surfaces and lines and continue to push the limits of efficient, green fuel usage.

Third, we'll check out Yamaha motor scooters.

Yamaha's motorcycles are renowned for their punchy engines and edgy designs. When you see someone zoom past on a Yamaha cycle, you just assume he's a cool dude (even if he's not). So it is a no-brainer that Yamaha is king of the hill in the motorized scooter market as well. Yamaha is an international leader in scooter technology, continuing to pioneer new models that are stronger, faster, more fuel efficient, and yeah--more cool.

If you drive a scooter by one of these manufacturers, you probably feel the pride of ownership. If you're still in the process of choosing a motorized scooter, it's hard to go wrong buying a Vespa, Honda, or Yamaha--but there are other good companies as well.

Generally, trustworthy scooter makers can be recognized by their generous warranties and established reputations. If you're not sure whether the brand you're looking at is legit, look online for reviews and check around for additional distribution centers--service and parts should be readily available. You might also want to get some additional input about the actual scooter buying process.

The Glamour Of Honda Scooters

"Old is Gold", the saying goes apt with the Honda motor scooters. The name Honda depicts a certainty and a trust. Let it be the steel framed model of 1950 or a today's hip-hop model; Honda has always been a part of evolutionary motor technique.

In those days of 1950s, people used to fantasize roaming through those plash Rome's streets as the Hondas then were developed with the idea of Italian Vespa. The advantage of those steel models was that they were more sturdy and capable of bearing the harsh impacts. However they were not good for your pockets as they used to consume fuel very much. The Honda Company came into loss after mid-1960s, because of lowered customer demand. This unfortunately stopped its production.

Aero 50, that was launched in 1983 however proved extremely lucky for Honda and it swept the world. There was a big hiatus in between but the new model became the talk of the town and a rave especially among teenagers. The round steel frame was changed to give it a sleeker look. Sharper features made it look terrific. To make the Honda Motor scooter more customer friendly, it was redesigned with light materials sufficient to bear body weight. The company also reduced the production cost and also designed to consume less fuel. The ride on Aero 50 was a smoothest, no doubt!
However, the power and pick up problems continued to haunt Honda till 1990s. Even the speed was not satisfactory.

This led the sleek model to another height. In 1990s, the idea of "Muscle scooter" had come into Honda. It was a combination of scooter and crotch rocket. To develop it further, some features of motorcycle were added like double exhaust, double and recessed seat arrangement. The floorboard was a little bit raised to have more comfort. Now the Honda got that real appeal that every boy or girl would cherish.

As we are merging into the 21st century, Honda has further elaborated its research and added some unique features to the existing models. To combine the features of 1950s model and that of 1990s was definitely a trick! This gave the scooter further sophisticated and bold look. Floorboards are a bit lowered, shortened the seats and raised handlebars. There was a lot of adage to the color of Honda. Besides the normal hues, bold reds, regal purples, deep blues and effervescent greens gave it a glitterier look. It also added to the elegance. Also, earthy oranges, golden yellows and rich browns made their entry converting into a scooter of everybody's choice.

Thus, Honda created a mark for itself in the rush of other competitors. It is no less than a revolution in itself. Having gained an accolade of easy maintenance, the Hondas will continue to shine as a reliable and powerful scooter that is a necessity in today's fast paced world!

How To Properly Fit A Helmet - Motorcycle Tips

Purchasing a new helmet that can be worn when riding a motorcycle is something that every rider has to do if they plan on riding in a state that has a helmet law. Here are some tips on how to properly fit a helmet.

One thing that you want to keep in mind is that it should fit comfortably regardless of the style that you decide to purchase. If you're not comfortable, you're simply not going to enjoy the ride as much. Not only that, but wearing a helmet that does not fit correctly can be dangerous and can reduce it's effectiveness in the event of a fall or crash.

In order to properly fit your helmet, there are a few things that you need to focus on.

Sizing

The most important aspect of properly fitting a helmet is the sizing of it. It simply will not fit if you don not purchase the right size, so taking accurate measurements is more important than ever. The only real measurement that you have to take in order get the size you need is the circumference of your head at the point just above your forehead. In most cases this is the largest point of the human head.

You don't want to purchase a helmet that is so small that it hurts your head when you wear, and at the same time you don't want to purchase one that practically falls off when you're riding. The one that you purchase should fit just right. This means that it should not be able to move freely while on your head, and you should be able to get it all the way on without having any pitching or over-tightness on the forehead.

Security

Another aspect to purchasing a helmet properly is making sure that you are able to securely fasten it to your head. This is made possible by the chin strap that every one should be equipped with. The chin strap fastens underneath your chin and extends up to the helmet by the ears on both sides. There are a couple different ways that the chin strap can be fastened. One style of fastener that you might find is the D-ring style which is the most traditional style of fastener. Newer models are coming equipped with a quick clip style fastener which allows you to fasten the chin strap with one single clip.

Trying Them On

Perhaps the best way to ensure that your helmet fits properly is to try them on before purchasing them. This will give you an opportunity to see which size fits and feels the best. If you plan on shopping online, you won't have the ability to try them on until you actually get them delivered to you, but you can always exchange them if they aren't the right size.
